There are more miracles, and there are two miracles that Jesus performed during his time whose effects are still with us. These two are among the greatest miracles of Jesus. The first one is the breaking of the bread. It is called by other names: sharing, love of neighbor, eucharist, bonding with God. It is a miracle that was institutionalized by Jesus during the Last Supper and his crucifixion and resurrection. It commemorates his passion, death and resurrection. When we do the breaking of the bread, we partake of the Lamb of God, Jesus Christ, who took away the sin of the world and brought humanity back to God. And it has produced so many marvelous effects: the believers’ integrity and individual responsibility, strength of character of the faithful, enduring faith, hope and love, Christian martyrdom, team building, community development, pursuit of excellence, care for the most vulnerable, moral clarity and integrity, etc. But its greatest effect is this: each individual, each Christian is the temple of the Holy Spirit. Literally and figuratively, God is with us. He lives in us if we live in him. And that’s the second one: The Word became flesh and dwelt among us. The effects of these two miracles are here to stay and stay forever.
