The Beatitudes

The article provides faith expression artworks based on Bible verses Matthew 5:3-12. These verses contain the Beatitudes. The Beatitudes are the teachings and blessings of Jesus Christ which he delivered during the “Sermon on the Mount” when he was living in the Holy Land more than 2,000 years ago.

The blessings were given by Jesus as gifts to the people who were waiting for their savior. These people were poor, suffering from illnesses, and they were unwanted. They were the downtrodden, the outcasts, the lowly people. They were a people in need of God and a leader.

Matthew 5:3 - “Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”

Matthew 5:4 - “Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.”

Matthew 5:5 - “Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.”

Matthew 5:6 - “Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.”

Hungry and Thirsting for Justice and Blessed

Matthew 5:7 - “Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.”

Matthew 5:8 - “Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.”

Hearts of Gold and Blessed

Matthew 5:9 - “Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.”

Matthew 5:10 - “Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”

Matthew 5:11-12 - “Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.”
